I wanted to explore a little more of Brooklyn this morning, so we headed there before the horrible heat set in. We had beautiful views of the Manhattan Bridge, and the Brooklyn Bridge from the neighborhood of DUMBO.
We came across this small beach, so we took advantage of the opportunity to cool off and put our legs in the East River.
We continued to walk on the rocks along the shoreline, and eventually went all the way under the massive Manhattan Bridge. We could see and hear the subway trains going overhead!
This is a great neighborhood, and has become quite a popular place to film movies. We even found another bakery on my list.
We walked to the pier for some more beautiful views of the bridges and Manhattan.
There are even solar "charging stations" around the city for mobile devices.
We then walked through the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge Park.
They've done a really good job making this area a wonderful place to walk through and hang out in.
We moved on to the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights. There were some gorgeous homes and streets throughout the area.
After a quick lunch at a local deli, we headed back towards the waterfront to go to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. It is housed in a 1920's fireboat house.
They are known for pure, fresh, creamy ice cream, and it was perfect for this hot day!
We went back to Manhattan, to Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport, and got tickets for The Shark. Its a speedboat that takes you all around the East River, Hudson River, and out to the Statues of Liberty.
Waiting to get on this boat was unbearable in the stifling sun. We were so happy to be out on the water with the breeze!
I could never get tired of looking at our lady liberty!
We headed back, and were thankful for even a minute when the sun went behind the clouds!
