Music through the century...

Zoe had her spring chorus performances this week. After many months and hours of rehearsals, she was finally able to perform in three shows this week. Along with being in the regular chorus, she also did a duet with her friend Bree and a father/daughter dance with Joe. It was a great show! Mrs. McBride is always so creative with her songs and dances. This performance brought us songs from the 1900's, through each decade, to present time. The whole group ended with the current rendition of "We Are the World," with a background of photos from the recent tragedy in Haiti.

Zoe's duet song was called "You Make Me Feel So Young" from the 1940's. She looked adorable up on that stage, and truly surprised me with how good she sounded. Zoe spends a lot of her time at home singing...no matter what she is doing, she is usually humming or singing a song. But this is the first time she has sung a solo part on stage. I was so proud of her!

She made a quick change and did her group performance with Joe. Joe wasn't too confident since he had only been able to make one rehearsal, but they had a blast!

This was Zoe's favorite chorus performance so far and she was very sad when the last show was over this morning. She already can't wait for next year!!

Carnival Time!

After a long couple months of planning, the Tony Tobin Spring Carnival was finally here! The day turned out great, ran very smoothly (with only a few occasional bumps in the road), and our families had a ton of fun.
Grandma, Grandpa, and Jax came down for the day, so they met me there once the carnival started. They ran around playing games, climbing the rock wall, going through the blow-up obstacle course, getting lots of food and snacks, and getting their crazy hair done. I tried to catch up with them when I could.

At the end of the carnival it was time for our raffle baskets to be won, and our silent auction to finish up. Grandma helped Cooper bid for "Breakfast with Mrs. Falciano!" He was determined to win this, so he chose to stand guard for a while to try to stop some other bidders! Too cute. He did end up winning by the way, so he'll be heading to breakfast (probably IHOP!) with Mrs. Falicano and another kid from his class.
Zoe really wanted to win a raffle basket. Her favorite was the American Girl basket, but it had a TON of tickets in it, so her chances weren't very good. She decided to pick a few that weren't as popular. Her theory worked, and she ended up winning a smaller basket with a free haircut, some hair and body washes, and free gift cards to frozen yogurt. She was a happy girl!
It was a VERY long day, and a lot of work went into this event. I am lucky to be working with such a great group of people in our PTA Board. Thanks ladies for all of your hard work!

After the carnival, we headed out to dinner to celebrate my dad's birthday. The day didn't end there and it was off to another baseball game. Cooper's team played great and ended with a big win, but Coop was exhausted. We made it home by 9 and hit the showers to get all of that crazy hair color out. Whew...time for some rest!

Honor Roll

Zoe was given the Honor Roll award again, this time for the 2nd trimester. Not only did she make the honor roll, but she was acknowledged for receiving all 5's (meaning 92% or higher) again in all subjects! Zoe works so hard in school and it truly dedicated to doing her best all the time. Way to go Zoe!

Unfortunately, they don't give honor roll awards to the lower grades. However, Cooper also received all 5's again on his 2nd trimester report card. We are so proud of you both!

Leprechaun Mischief!

Lucky the Leprechaun made his yearly St. Patrick's Day visit to our house last night. Boy did he cause some trouble! He tossed pillows and knocked over chairs and lamps; he turned our potty water green, as well as our milk in the refrigerator; he even left a long trail of shamrock confetti from the kids beds, down the stairs, to the kitchen. That Lucky must have had a lot of energy!
The kids followed the trail which led to their breakfast counter...
They started off with a small bowl of Lucky Charms, but ended with a plate full of green pancakes and green scrambled eggs. It's a good thing my kids eat a big breakfast every morning!
It was time to head of for a fun day at school. I loved seeing the "sea of green" out on the playground!
After a busy day of volunteering at school, a quick lunch, a few errands, baseball practice and dance, we made it home for our traditional St. Patrick's day dinner of Irish soda bread and potato cheese soup (no one here would ever touch a bowl of corned beef and cabbage!). We followed it up with some yummy cupcakes.

Go KC Royals!!!!

Cooper's first baseball game on the Kansas City Royals was today right after school. He was so excited for the game, they have been practicing a ton and he has learned so much already. It was a very cold evening, but the kids played a fantastic first game! Cooper got some great hits every time he was up at bat and made one of the team runs. He also did great on 3rd base and got a few kids out. It was so much fun to watch, although I would've liked to do it without my fingers and toys going numb!

His first time up at bat he hit a single. The next batter up hit another single, but Cooper got out at 2nd base.


Time to be catcher. I think this is Cooper's least favorite position, although he did pretty well. He took a very hard machine-pitched ball to the rib, and got a bunch of dirt in his eye, but he toughed it out.
He was really wanting to make it around to home plate before the game was over. Thankfully, he made another great hit, followed by his teammates and he made it home! (Too bad my picture turned out so blurry)

Way to go Royals! Looks like it is going to be a GREAT season!

Happy 2nd Birthday Zippy!

Today was Zippy's 2nd birthday, which of course meant a little celebration! Mimi sent a box filled with goodies for all the pups to share. Zoe wanted to make a card to give him too...

End of Basketball...

Unfortunately I had to miss Cooper's last basketball game due to snow camp, but Joe said he played awesome and finished out the season very strong! Tonight we got to celebrate with his team at the Team Magic Basketball Party. Overall it was a great season, and Cooper absolutely LOVES basketball. He learned so much and his skills have grown a ton. Coach Simon said he was an absolute pleasure to have on his team and that he was a great listener, a real team player, and a fantastic basketball player!
He was thrilled to get his first basketball trophy, team photos, and of course, a "goody" bag.
So, now we move all of our focus to baseball...until next year!
