Celebrating the 4th!

Since we have had such a crazy weekend, with 2 very long days, we didn't have much planned for the 4th of July. We usually head to the Newport to spend the day at the beach with the family, but since we were unsure of the baseball schedule, we stayed home and had a pretty quiet day. We were all exhausted, and I'm still battling a summer cold, so a mellow day was needed. I did still want to get into the spirit of the day though, so we hit Old Town in the morning to enjoy the annual Independence Day Parade.

We sat in the shade for a while before the parade started since the blazing heat was upon us!

The kids and I moved to the curb to get a good few, while Daddy stayed back in the shade.
It was a great hometown parade, filled with military, marching bands, veterans, boy scouts, beauty pageant winners, and local community leaders.

There was lots of cheering and standing for our military and our veterans. We are so thankful to all of our servicemen and servicewomen for continually fighting for our freedom!

We spent most of the afternoon in the pool, cooling off from the heat and having some fun.

Zippy couldn't resist joining us too.

We grilled up some hot dogs, sausages, and corn on the cob and enjoyed an early dinner out on the patio.

Once it was dark, we took a hike to one of our favorite spots above the city so we could catch the firework show!

It was a nice ending to our long weekend of fun! Happy 4th of July!!
