AOE 2015, Day 1

Joe qualified for the Award of Excellence trip for work again this year! It's been a challenging, and interesting year with this company, so we were thrilled to actually reap a reward for his hard work and frustrations. Since it was such a long distance to travel, we decided to add a couple of days at the beginning and make it a family vacation. It was a bit stressful to pull the kids out of school and activities, but it was well worth it.

After a full day of school, dance and drums, we headed to LAX to board our late flight. Since we were going to be out of the country and wouldn't have use of our phones, Zoe had to get in her last few minutes checking in with her friends and using social media. Not sure how she will survive the week!

We had a layover in Atlanta to grab a quick breakfast, and got on our second flight. It was officially morning, but didn't feel like that to our bodies.
The long flight made it all worth it! Welcome to the Bahamas!
We stopped at a grocery store to pick up some snacks for the week, and checked into our hotel (a cheaper one for the first two nights!) and got settled. Zoe was anxious to peel the skin and dig into her tropical mango.
We put on our bathing suits and walked next door to the Atlantis Resort to get our wristbands. The aquarium there is absolutely incredible.

We were ready to hit the pools and water slides! We put our bags (and cameras) in a locker and had a fun few hours in the slides. It was a little cooler than we had hoped but we had fun!
We decided to walk around the town a bit to find somewhere for dinner. We walked over the bridge from Paradise Island back to main island.
Conch is a food staple here, as are the shells. It was neat to see these guys cleaning them out.
Both sides of the bridge had rows of seafood houses. Joe would've loved to dig in, but the rest of us were a little more wary.

We found a great little restaurant in the village and had a nice dinner before heading to bed after a long day!
