Off, then on again...

We had a follow-up with the orthopedic specialist today. They wanted to take the cast off, check on the healing, do new x-rays, and re-cast.
Coop said it vibrated and tickled to have it cut off...

He had a few minutes of freedom with it off, although he really couldn't move it and it felt very stiff and painful. He described it as feeling like there was a long metal rod in his arm. At least the abrasions underneath have healed nicely!
The good news is that the x-rays showed new bone growth and good healing. The doctor verified that there was no need for surgery, and said a little over 3 more weeks in the cast. Hopefully at that point, he can get the cast off for good and just have a brace for a while.
Cooper wasn't sure what color cast he was going to get, although he was leaning towards a bright green. However, Zoe's friends got together at school and signed a petition for him to get purple. Not sure where that came from, but I guess it worked, since that's what he ended up with.
It's been a long 2 1/2 weeks, and I'm sure the next 3 1/2 will seem even longer! He's making do, trying to find things to do...pushing the limits when he can, and I'm helping with his writing homework at night. The hardest part is definitely no beach and pool time, and no sports for the first time in 9 years!
