Home Economics

Zoe's elective rotation at school includes a 9-week home economics course. She has been having fun practicing some life skills!

They started with learning the rules of laundry. They were required to do 3 loads of laundry at home, completely on their own. Zoe didn't find this difficult, but said that folding clothes gets really boring. I think she gained some appreciation for how much time I spend doing laundry!

Next they moved on to sewing. Zoe has always liked to do sewing projects, so she had fun making these cute little mice. She only had to do one, but my overachiever decided to do a mini one for extra credit.

They also did a segment on baby care-taking. She was given an egg that she had to name and take care of for a week. She made "Tom" a comfy, safe home in a tupperware container, and carried him around school and home.

They are now finishing with cooking skills and kitchen safety. Zoe takes any chance she can to cook or bake, so when she had the chance to make some peanut butter crisp bars (once again for extra credit!) she did!

I'm not sure how much new information Zoe has actually learned in this class, but she is enjoying having a low-stress class with a fun teacher!
